Not minding my own business
In the past my policy was to mind my own business about Israeli politics because I was living in America and not in Israel. After all, I don't really know the difference between Bibi N and Naftali B.
Lately, since the start of the third Intifada, with southern Israel bombarded from Gaza with arson balloons and mortar shells, my opinions on how to respond to the riots and terror attacks have grown stronger and stronger until those opinions leaked out all over Facebook.
This morning I saw a picture of rioters running in circles and the caption said that Israel needn't have responded to them so harshly. The truth, however, was that Israel didn't respond harshly at all. In fact, Israel has not responded harshly enough. If Israel had struck back immediately to the first arson balloons-shooting those balloons back down on the heads of those who sent them up into the air-there wouldn't have been any more arson balloons to follow. There wouldn't have been any more damage to Israelis, or Arabs, or the property of either group.
Typically when flying IEDs come too close to hitting someone or something in Israel, the Israeli Air Force flys over Gaza to strike some empty buildings owned by Hamas. Israel also warns those who live near the targets that they need to take shelter. But this action does little good at all. If the strikes took out the rioters who were bent on doing the damage, there probably would not be any other riots or arson balloons to follow.
Those who go out to riot for Hamas on Friday afternoons are not civilians. I don't care if they have been paid by Hamas or threatened by Hamas. They are soldiers engaged in war out of uniform. I believe that the European code of warfare says soldiers out of uniform are automatically sentenced to death when captured unless they are surrendering. Gav can correct me if I'm wrong on that.
Yes, the UN and EU would condemn the killing of the rioters, but the UN and EU condemn killings when there have been no killings of Arabs. And they don't care how many Jews are killed before Israel strikes back. In their eyes, killing of Jews by Arabs could never justify Jews striking back at Arabs.
The UN and EU make it a point to ignore any terror attacks of any kind when Jews are the victims. There are never enough Jewish victims to justify striking back, so why wait to strike back? If Israel were to start executing all terrorists, there might be fewer terrorists and the UN and EU couldn't possibly bitch any more than they do now.
To make things worse, right now the third Intifada is aimed at exactly the section of Israeli communities I most prefer to live in. Bummer! So as far as I'm concerned, all arson balloonists must die and the sooner the better.
